Projects for the Summer

At the top of my list is to CLEAN THE STUDY. The study is a good example of what happens when you put two pack-rats together: chaos.

I am itching to purge all the detritus that is around. For example, in my paper filer above my desk, I currently spot: a SEPTA schedule, a check that I never cashed, dated March 6, 2006 (is this even valid anymore?), unused UVA transcripts from when I was applying to graduate school, about 10 issues of "The Paw Street Journal" that the vet gave us on Callie's first visit, my Runner's World workout schedule that I failed to follow while training for the half marathon...in November, postcards I never sent from Bermuda, museum brochures from Penn, a Christmas card from the family I nannied for last year, photos from the engagement party that Preston's aunt gave us, receipt that says I've paid my tuition for this semester (oh how I wish I could take that back...), and an envelope from Macy's wedding registry so thick it could insulate walls.

That makes my brain hurt. And then I turn around and look at PILES of detritus in the drawers, in my back-pack, on the shelves, on and in Preston's desk...seriously. It's like they multiply overnight.

Well when summer, that blessed time that will (I am determined) fill our lives with sunshine and lollipops after the hell that has been this year, finally comes, I will arm myself with many, many trash/recycle bags, and I will go through papers upon papers (and, apparently, Paw Street Journals, old post cards, and failed workout schedules) and CLEAN.

And then this time next year, undoubtedly, I'll be itching to do it all over again.
