Lazy Thursday

Several people have asked me how my star system is working out, and I am happy to say that so far, it's going splendidly. Since I last posted, I have watched another episode of Mad Men, and am hoping that tonight I'll be able to watch a fourth (or Firefly on Instant Netflix with Preston. That's right. We ARE awesome.). I will admit that the star stickers are getting kind of boring; I think I'll have to dig through my desk and see if I can find anything tackier to use next week. Jon Hamm, however, and all things Mad Men, continue to serve as excellent incentive.

That said, I feel like I would be lying if I gave you the impression that I was dutifully sitting at my desk all day pouring out brilliant thesis-y thoughts. Because oh my goodness that is NOT the case. I work a few hours here, a few hours there, generally with frequent stops for snacks and trips to the dog park. Or, in yesterday's case, a stop for some serious napping. Preston was under the impression that I was working when he walked through the den and found this scene yesterday:

So no. I do not spend every second of my day working on Persius and updating my star chart. Because sometimes, well, the couch calls. I vaguely remember going into the den and deciding to lie down. An hour and a half later, I woke up when I heard the click of the camera. I did actually get in about four more hours of work last night when Preston went to baseball (Thanks to my midday nap, I actually stayed up past 9:30. You should be duly impressed.), but at 3:00 yesterday afternoon, the thesis was just not happening. And I'm ok with that. Especially when I have such snuggly naptime buddies.

All in all, I feel that nap time yesterday was a Good Life Choice. Because - and I know this may come as a shock to you - sometimes writing a thesis on culinary metaphors in Persius is KIND OF BORING. That said, it has to be done, so whether or not the thesis drives me to the couch every day or not, the star chart and Mad Men will absolutely still be part of my daily routine. Because I'm not giving up. But man. That couch is surprisingly comfortable.
