Carrel Tour

I gave you all a little peek into my carrel when I posted a couple of weeks ago, and I thought that this time, I'd give you the full tour.  I know.  Try to contain your excitement.

So behold, internet.  This is where I spend my days (when I'm not teaching, hibernating at coffee shops, or catching up on TV on the internet.  I mean WHAT?).

This is the third carrel I've occupied during graduate school, and it is by far my favorite location.  I get to overlook the mezzanine of the library (I was going to take a picture of that, but there were people studying down there, and, well, I felt like a creeper), I get just enough natural light to keep me sustained, but not enough to get me distracted, and I am near a bathroom (TMI, I know, but see #36). Basically, I love my carrel.  Also, usually it is way neater than it appears in these photos (since we all know how I like my work zone), so please excuse the mess (I was doing homework - specifically, translating 628 lines of the Odyssey...but who's counting?  SIGH.).

And there you have it!  Where all the magic (and by magic, we understand, 'frantic translating' and 'constantly refreshing my Google Reader') happens.   What does your workspace look like?

  1. Oh my God SOOO much envy! You have not only your own desk but also your own bookshelves?? AND you can bring a thermos?????? Bliss. Do all graduate students at Bryn Mawr get these?? I'm transferring.

  2. SO jealous. I had to apply for a carrel...that I would have to share with two other people...and I haven't heard back from them. (grr...) Maybe I will post a picture of Room G, the Assyriology library where I'm doing all my work these days (since my textbooks are out of print).

  3. That's an amazing space! Mine is canvas, Formica, and tan-painted steel. It's as exciting as it sounds.

  4. Also, I think I see myself (posing as a Greek statue) in one of those photos on your shelf.. this makes me incredibly happy.

  5. Luke: you made me laugh :)

Kelly: yes, all grad students get them (HUGE perk of BMC), and YES! That *is* you posing as a Greek statue in that last photo (you are also standing next to me in the photograph below the Greek statue one)!! I love that you guys are always watching over me :)

  6. Whoa, I am totally impressed that you get your own space! Hauling your stuff back and forth would be so irritating. My office will be a little empty this week, so I will snap a shot of my cube, too. :)
