Baby: 1 / Maternal Instinct: 0

After spending the last five months firmly convinced that Fake Baby was a boy, you can imagine how GENUINELY surprised we were when the ultrasound tech assured us that FB is, in fact, of the female variety.  That's right!  We're having a girl!

With her gender sign drawn on an appropriately girl-tastic Lily Pulitzer notepad.

During the appointment the tech started by taking some measurements (making sure everything looked ok), but when she got down to the legs, little Miss's legs were crossed and the tech couldn't see the gender.  So she kept on taking measurements and at the end, went back down to see if she could discern the sex, but this time little Miss's HAND was in the way (we will henceforth call her "Horny Baby."  Just kidding.  Seriously, we're not going to call her horny baby.), and the tech still couldn't tell for sure.  She said that she thought it was a girl at first, but wasn't totally sure.  She assured us that the doctor would come in and take a look in a second and that we'd try to get a better picture.

Ten anxious minutes later, she came back in and said that the doctor had looked at the scans and that he didn't even need to check me out.  When we didn't move or say anything, she said, "Would you like me to try to find the sex again?"  "YES!" we both exclaimed.  So she got the Doppler back out and we tried again.  The baby was still not cooperating.  After wiggling the Doppler on my belly a little bit, FINALLY the baby moved and the tech said, "Yep!  It's definitely a girl!"  We saw the labia (you are WELCOME!) to prove it.

Although I'm not so much a fan of the pink pink everywhere (I love pink, I just don't want her to grow up in a Pepto Bismol explosion), I AM so much a fan of hair bows, smocked dresses, feminism, Little House in the Big Woods (is it weird to juxtapose that with 'feminism'?), the fact that she will actually call me when she goes to college (fingers crossed), how she will have four uncles to dote on her, the fact that she will bring some MUCH needed estrogen into our families (we both have two brothers), and DUH the fact that I don't have to deal with a little person penis.

Most importantly, however, she looks very healthy - everything is in the right place, and I'm measuring right on time.  In mid-May, Miss B will make her way into the world (again: lalalalala we're not thinking about how that is happening yet), and we cannot wait to meet her.

Once more: SQUEAL!  We're having a girl!!
