Impending Disaster

In order to receive my MA in Classics from Bryn Mawr, I have to pass at least one sight exam in Latin or Greek. This barrel of fun is a three hour exam containing six passages drawn from a variety of genres and eras. The idea is that after being in a graduate program for two years, my Latin/Greek will be strong enough that this is very feasible. That I'll be able to look at the Latin and, even if I've never seen it before, translate without toooo much of a problem. Key words here: after two years of graduate study I'm expected to pass this exam (and even then, many students have to take it several times to pass).

Because God hates me, I have to take that very exam this morning. As a diagnostic. Having read NO Latin since last April, and no Greek since last May, I can think of about one million eight hundred sixty six thousand things I would rather do than take this exam. Off the top of my head.
