Confessions

1. I don't have today off, and when I realized that Preston did, the first thought that entered my mind was not, "Oh how lovely for you! We are married and therefore, when you are happy, I AM HAPPY!" Nono. It was more like, [strained silence] "OK. Fine. Well that's perfect because it means you can vacuum the whole apartment and put away everything on your desk." And then I got up and left the room. Because I'm really three years old. I apologized later.

2. But I'm still kind of resentful.

3. Last night I went to Barnes and Noble instead of doing my Greek homework, and I used Christmas gift cards to buy a book I've been ogling for ages, Barefoot Contessa's Back to Basics.

4. I also bought Twilight. And not even a respectable looking copy. The copy with the MOVIE STARS on the front.

5. I'm kind of ridiculously excited to read it.

6. I skipped out on my run this morning to finish the Greek I should have finished yesterday and, apparently, to blog about how I've spent the weekend avoiding my Greek homework by buying tween vampire fiction. Awesome.

7. I didn't shower this morning, but instead, looked in the mirror, thought, ehhh it could work, and straightened my hair.

8. I'm also wearing a polo shirt handed down to me from my 16 year old brother that is definitely meant for MALE teenagers.

9. Yet I decided to pair pearls with it.

10. I will not have finished all of my work for class. SIGH.

11. I really, really, really, did I mention really, want to come home after class at 4 and either a) sleep, b) run, or c) read Twilight, but I am determined not to leave the library and/or Bryn Mawr coffee shops until I've finished at least half of my Latin. We'll see what happens.

12. This weekend, I avoided doing my hand-washing (edit: CLOTHES that need to be hand-washed. I promise I washed my hands, because, um, ew.) for the fourth weekend in a row.

13. I can't fold a fitted sheet, and every week when I wash ours, I just ball it up, throw it in the bottom of the basket, and ask Preston to deal with it. See: the basket sitting in our bedroom right now.

  1. I know you're so stressed and it's not QUITE as fun from your side, but do you know how fantastically snuggly Bryn Mawr coffee shops in the cold with Latin work and WiFi and a cup of hot chocolate and a scarf (ok I am ad libbing now) sounds? Fabulous. Enjoy it.

  3. Dude I have that SAME copy of Twilight that I bought in the Newark airport on my way home to VA for Xmas and read cover to cover. I didn't even feel guilty (although it was a little disappointing). High fives on the tween vampire fiction.

  4. Love your blog. Great writing.

13.Doing basic life chores like folding sheets is too hard to do in graduate school. I solve this problem by not using sheets so that way, I don't have to fold. I obviously do not win at life :)

And I totally remember FORUM. I have the occasional visceral reaction when I randomly encounter my essays in there.
