Now It's Official

The hero of the hour.

In case there were any doubt before, it is now official: Callie is the best dog in the world. Lately, she's been foregoing attacking her Greenies for attacking the stuffed squirrel that Preston got her in October and she essentially ignored until last week. Whenever she pounces on said squirrel Pres and I always joke that Callie is training for catching the mice that have woefully invaded our apartment (we joke because she's always been a completely worthless mouse catcher).

However, it is clear that her training was for real, because tonight she ROCKED THE HOUSE. Pres and I were sitting on the couch eating scrumptious baked ziti (I made healthy vegetarian ziti over the weekend, but this batch was loaded with beef and cheese and was much tastier...and I'm trying really hard just to enjoy it and not panic about the fact that it now looks like I am carrying a ziti baby), sipping our beer/wine, and watching The Office reruns when we noticed Callie acting suspiciously. She started trotting between the den window and the dining room window, always sniffing with her nose in the air. She did this several times, started whimpering, and then lay down behind the sofa (where she never goes) so that she had a good view of all the action in the dining room.

Suddenly, she jumped up and started sniffing behind my Granddad's chairs, which are right up against the fireplace. I stood on the sofa and asked Preston to go see what she was so frantic about. And lo and behold THE BITCH IS BACK. Even after we caught our first mouse, a nagging voice in the back of my head said, "Where there is one mouse, there WILL be more..." (isn't that from a Sex and the City episode? Season 6? With the Russian? Am a a loser for knowing that?). And apparently God still hates me, so yes, there are more.

Anyways, there is no way Preston and I would have seen that mouse in the dining room tonight (none of the lights were on) if Callie had not alerted us. So she is officially the best dog ever in the history of the world and I'm seriously considering erecting a plaque in her honor somewhere special. She was seriously rockin'. Sniffing in the right places, frantically pacing where she knew the mouse was, and whimpering so that we knew we should take her seriously.

My two favorite mouse catchers EVER. Yuck I never thought I would have to have favorite mouse catchers. SIGH.

This was before the mouse incident...when I did not realize how very deep my love for Callie is. But I do love this picture., mouse issues aside.
