Bullet Points

  • I have now gotten two graduate level papers back, and have SURVIVED! I was hugely embarrassed to turn in one of them and would still very much like to send it into the Black Hole of craptastic papers so that I would never have to think about it again. In lieu of that, I've stuck it in the very back of my folder so that if I do look at it, it's by accident. I was rather proud of the second one, though, and actually enjoyed writing parts of it, meaning that HOORAY I could have a future in graduate school.
  • Ness still does not know that the staircase to the outside of our building is NOT THE OUTSIDE, and she pees there regularly. In order to prevent this, I carry her down the stairs. This was fine at first, since she was all cute and little and puppyish, but has become much, much more like carrying a very wiggly 35 pound bowling ball. LESS FUN.
  • One night I got into bed and Preston, thinking I was a dog, hit me on the head and said sternly, "No! Get down!" I informed him that I was in fact his wife. Then he stopped hitting me. He continued talking in his sleep. This is clearly why I need to keep a recording device by the side of the bed.
  • Preston and I have successfully cooked FOUR count them FOUR meals together recently. Among them are: Baked Shrimp and Feta, Spaghetti with Turkey Meatballs, Linguine and Green Vegetables in a Peanut Sauce, Pasta with Broccoli, Sausage, and Roasted Red Peppers. All four dishes were delicious and I (obviously) documented them all with my camera. Pictures and recipes coming soon.
  • If we are facebook friends, please N.B. I am not posting pictures on facebook anymore. THAT IS RIGHT. It's gotten to the point where most of my pictures are of 1) the dogs, 2) Preston, 3) our dinners, 4) some combination of the first three.....and I've started to feel a liiiiitle self-conscious about putting them all on facebook where my much cooler high-school/college classmates post pictures about their real lives in which they go to real clubs with real drinks and wear really cute clothes, etc. So instead, I'm just going to put them on the internet (using Flickr) FOR ALL TO SEE. I'll post the link shortly.
  • I'm beginning to really, really enjoy the people in my graduate program. As in, I kind of want to be some of my professors. They are that kind of awesome.
  • I'm signing up to run the Washington D.C. Marathon in March. ACK.
  • Callie is still The Best Dog, Ness is still a little shitter, and Preston is still The Calmest Person I Know. Some things never change. But that's ok. They make me laugh.
  • I still have 350 lines of Greek to do before tomorrow at 2. Some things REALLY DO never change. This is less ok.

  1. -The story about Preston hitting you on the head, especially the line, "Then I informed him that I was his wife," made me giggle a lot.
-Thank goodness you are still going to post pictures SOMEWHERE. I was going to be very upset.
    -Impressive dinners!
-I started puppy class with Clementine, and the instructor gave us some housetraining tips I hadn't heard before: always take the dog out by the same door (I think you are doing this, but it hadn't occurred to me), put a bell on the door and ring it as you go out, so that the dog learns to ring the bell when she has to pee, and check the content of the food you're giving the dog--if it's high in corn (2nd or 3rd ingredient), which is primarily a filler and mostly just gets shit right out again, it might be a reason for the over-poopiness. He said that a lot of housetraining could actually be diet-related, and suggested Natural Choice as a less corn-based food. Can you tell I'm super excited about obedience training?

Welcome back to the blogosphere, I missed you!! It sounds like you are rocking out in graduate school, yay! And I'm glad more photos will be coming, I was worried... but seriously, my life is not that exciting or photogenic, promise.
    Much love!!!

  4. I just snorted in my cubicle over Preston's confusion between you and the pups. Absolutely priceless. And I'm proud of you for signing up for the DC Marathon, I suppose I'll just have to come cheer you on! Good luck with your work, Mary.
