The other day, however, Preston found out that the school where he works is going wireless, and mentioned how he really wished he had a laptop (he's always been a desktop boy). As I simply could not fathom being in a wireless environment and not having a laptop (he also doesn't have his own classroom, so it's not as if he has constant access to a classroom computer), I suggested that he used the money to get a laptop. His desktop is getting old and, knock on wood, cross my heart and hope to die, I won't need another computer for a year or two. Plus, as my father and I are not close (he left my Mom when I was eleven and they divorced when I was fourteen), it made me kind of squirmy to think about spending the money anyways. PLUS, since Apple is currently running their 'buy a computer and get a free iPod!' rebate , I get an iPod Touch!
It's perfect timing for both of us, really; Preston's computer is in good shape, but still getting older, and my current iPod is in about the same condition. Basically, they're both juuuust now starting to get cranky and show signs of age. We haven't even ordered the computer, but we have both been spending lots of time on the apple website, ogling our new toys.
