Love: That yesterday morning, Penelope and I went on our longest run yet, an 8.5 mile loop, and I'm NOT DEAD!! Other than the fact that I felt like I wanted to hitchhike my way home one or ten times, the run was pretty fantastic. My legs are finally strong enough to tolerate a long run, I love having time to chat with Penelope (and the fact that she keeps me going and probably wouldn't let me hitchhike my way home), and it's a great way to start the day.
Hate: That yesterday morning after our 8.5 mile run, I didn't have time (ok to be honest, I just completely misjudged my time, per usual) to take a shower before my Greek comedy lecture on campus. SO I JUST DIDN'T. And I smelled about as delicious as a sun-baked dumpster. Here's what I did: after going on our run, dropping Penelope off, and getting back from the Farmer's Market/Trader Joe's (and carrying our groceries up 8 flights of stairs! Because the elevator decided to break! Yesterday! The one time that I needed it!), I peeled off my sweaty running clothes, reapplied deodorant, threw together a (kind of cute, actually) outfit, took my hair down, used my hair dryer to blow the sweat out of my hair, used my fake "I don't need water to shampoo!" shampoo that I got at Sephora when I was in New York last winter and trying to be all fancy, but that I never use because HELLO I do need water to shampoo, used an exfoliating cloth to wipe the grime off my face (seriously. I. am. gross.), threw on some blush, chapstick, mascara, and OUT THE DOOR I WAS. I feel really, really awful for the two lovely graduate students that had to sit next to me.
Love: That we're getting OUR PUPPY today!!!
Hate: That I'm only on Chapter 4 of the Complete Idiot's Guide To Puppies ("Basic Care." I'm reading about collars and leashes. We have a long way to go.) and that I'm starting to panic that I don't have time to have a puppy.
Love: That my Mom's coming to visit! She'll be here in 4 hours!
Hate: That I need about 15 hours of cleaning time to make the house Mom acceptable.
Love: That Preston and I are really pretty awesome at recycling. We haven't taken our recycling down in about three weeks (ok, so I don't love this) and it's all piled up in our dining room at the moment (another thing to be remedied before the Mother arrives) and there is SO MUCH of it that I'm pretty sure God is giving us extra points in heaven because we are just so eco-friendly.
Hate: That when I look at our recycling I think HOLY GOD are we alcoholics? How many cans of beer and bottles of wine can two people go through? Answer: I will not disclose this information. And then I'm pretty sure God takes away our karma points.
Love: That my Greek professor cut our assignment in half last Thursday.
Hate: That he decided, instead of forgetting about those lines, that we should just translate them for next week. In addition to what was already assigned. So now my assignment for next week is 700 lines of Greek (I average, at best, 50 lines an hour. That's 14 hours of translating Aristophanes). And if that isn't vomitous, I don't know what is.
Love: That I have a WHOLE WEEK of Fall Break at Bryn Mawr!
Hate: That it is still three oh-so-long weeks away.
Love: That it's finally feeling like fall! Blue skies! Crunchy leaves! Crisp air! Trader Joe's Pumpkin Butter!
Hate: That this means, inevitably, that winter, that most terrible of seasons, will be here sooner than I know it.
Love: That Preston is playing fall baseball on a men's league team!
Hate: That they have a game tomorrow, meaning that he won't be there to greet my Mom and me at the end of the half-marathon.
Love: That it's Saturday morning and I'm drinking freshly ground Verona from Starbucks at my desk.
Hate: That I can't sit here at my desk, drinking my coffee, for the next hour.
Love: A clean apartment.
Hate: The cleaning of the apartment.
Happy, happy weekend to you all!
p.s. Anyone who's over from Liz at Celebritastic, HELLO! Nice to meet you. Over the internet.
